    Not surprising, sadly

    The DHS is a knee-jerk mop-up of some 49 lesser agencies, or something to that tune, and is famous for its uplifting of minimum wage rent-a-cops into full blown unfirable federal agents with powers for icing. This is what the USoA entrusts its national security to, and they get the panem et circenses they deserve. A bit of a pity that the rest of the world gets to be a player in the circus and we in Europe have found to our horror that our politicians actually like dancing to that tune. Do we deserve what we get? Discuss.

    What happened to the story of DHS generally being asses on airports and destroying parked planes through excessive "inspections" (like looking into cockpits from outside by lifting themselves up on the pitot tubes etc.)

    Logical, in a way.

    Isn't there an old saying that goes like "sometimes the best place to hide something is in full view" ??

    No doubt there are also escaped murderers who've managed to get themselves jobs as prison-guards. . . .

    So who is surprised about this sort of incompetence?

    With this sort of thing so commonplace I am continually amazed there are some who would turn over something as important as health care to the demonstrably incompetent government civil service employees.

    fugitives are hard to catch.

    They have no steady job or permanent address, use false names and only pay cash.

    Oh wait. She's a civil servant who gets a pay cheque and has a drivers license in her own name.

    You might think that running a copy of the NCIC entries against DHS (or indeed all government employees) now and again but there are a *lot* of US government employees and (pressumably) 99% of the time nothing would be found. The US government can't afford to wast *that* kind of money.

    Bit like assertions in C. Reporting when something that can "never happen" does happen.
