back to article Street View forced to reshoot Japan

Google's Street View has agreed to reshoot all the images captured by its Japan-based spymobiles following mass complaints decrying the altitude of its vehicle's cameras. According to the Mainichi Daily News, the search monolith deployed spycams mounted at 2.45 metres, "just over the height of garden walls and so on". A Google …

One rule for me one rule for you

Does anyone know where one of Jacqui Smiths homes is on Google Street View?

    Their loss - I think!

If some countries don't want it then miss them out. It's their loss. Or is it Google's? Not sure really!

Not sure about Ms Smith's homes, but I was able to find one of John Maples' alleged houses easily enough.....

Mine's the one with the pockets stuffed full of fake receipts.

    @AC Re Jacqui

This time, your're wrong. That wasn't Jacqui. It were the campers outside parliament who are not protected by high fences and walls! </joke>

Sure, you could easily plan a terrorist attack or whatever if you saw the streetview of parliament. Or there were some MPs' expense claims visible... Who knows.

    Snooping!

Poking a camera over someone's garden wall might also be seen as snooping by some.

    @AC Re: Parliament

Navigate down the street to the tents, then turn around and come back. The previously deleted images suddenly appear...

    How will they cope...

...with the satellite view? Will they have to fly them at ground level too?

A bit of quick surfing (thank you Postman patel's blog) and ....

    Yeah I always did wonder...

...about the height they set the cameras at. Surely if its a "street-view" thing, then it should be set to average eye level, makes more sense for easier recognition of street items etc. It works out only about a foot above your typical Vauxhall Astra, which they use (I think it was) and those panoramic cams surely dont need huge towers to work from.

    .

Redo the UK too with lower cameras!

    .

So, what have those crafty japs got to hide exactly above all the other nations included in SV? Too much back-garden seppuku going on I reckon. Or are they afraid of how their nations sexual attitudes differ from the west? Need I say more?

I'm guessing it's the one with police coming out? The one that looks far more expensively done up and decorated than all the surrounding ones?

    Bah!

I can tell the Greeks that the pictures stay on Google Maps forever. I moved that pile of dirt off my driveway *ages* ago.

People ought to be allowed to forget trifling errors in which they order dirt in cubic yards that only have 9 cubic feet in them instead of the usual 27 - and FYI it only took me two years to find places to shovel the bugger - but there, giving Mrs Stevie yet another excuse to bust my balls is the evidence that I screwed up again for all to see.

    Blurring a bit off

Note that although the WPC's face is blurred, it didn't quite work for the other chap. The blurring missed his face, and is over his weapon instead.

Does this mean Google have fallen foul of the pseudo-law forbidding photography of serving officers?

They're a bit casual, though, for a protection detail, aren't they? Leaning against the wall, the WPC with her hat off?

At least the guvnor was in when Google drove past.

I don't understand the issue here..

Who use Street view? Who uses Google maps? Google Street view is rude and potentially intrusive. The Japanese have the right idea, IMHO.

Google Street view appears to me to be yet another Google frippary for people with too much time on their hands and not enough interests in their life.

The more folks use it the more revenue Google will make and the more money they will have to "steal" written works that they can get cretins to agree to be "out of copyright".

    Yours Trully, Captn Ludd.

    What are they doing?

What could the Japanese be doing in their gardens that caused such a protest? Does this mean Google have accidentally given us Google Street Voyeur? Do we as citizens of the internet no longer have the right to view Amateur Google Garden Porn?

    Stop

    camera cars

I, like many people, have been zapped by a googler in a car and seen a couple of them around town etc nr Manchester. Doesn't bother me per se, I'm actually 'famous' for being snapped having a fag outside the office where I shouldn't have been having one...

However, I did spot one of these googlemobiles and the chap driving it was dawdling down a road with his laptop open on the passenger seat - clearly not paying any attention ro the road.

Now I'm sorry but didn't someone go to jail for a similar offence recently (having killed an entire family)??! Surely the police should be doing something about this??
