back to article Swedes grumbling about Apple Store in their park are lucky – in Toronto, Google eats all your data

Locals have objected to Apple building a store in Stockholm's Kungsträdgården (Kungsan) park. Protestors said the intrusion of a tasteful glass temple of overpriced consumer electronics encroaches into the public space, ruining the character of the park. The Swedish capital has owned the park since 1970. The opposition to …

It is not "only" a shop. It is an ugly monstrosity of a shop that we don't want. We the hell would we need a apple glasshouse taking up that much space? The resturant is not pretty no but replace it then with something useful...

      Calm down

Calm down and prepare to join the first volunteer battalion of Ikea. For a more detailed description of where we are going and where it will end (spoiler - in the book it is Stockholm) read the book in the link. It is worth it.

At Casca, re: a glass building.

Remember the old addage that those that live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks?

A corrollary of that is they also shouldn't provoke others to throw rocks at them.

Would you care for a bag of rocks? =-D

It looks like an eye-sore. The building doesn't fit in with any of its surroundings.

In many places planning permission would be refused purely on those grounds. The building should fit in with its surroundings, which, looking at the model seem to be at least 19th Century in design.

Make the new building modern, but it should still reflect the style of its surroundings.

Maybe a better design would be...

      Or...

"a modern-day town square, where everyone is welcome in a space where the best of Apple comes together to connect with one another, discover a new passion, or take their skill to the next level,"

The question is, will this square have rounded corners?

No but it does have a notch

Apple has responded to criticism....inviting people to think of an Apple Store as a "public square"

Yes, a public square. The people who want to be able to replace the motherboard on their laptos are in the stocks over there. And tomorrow we will be beheading a guy who cracked his iPhone X.

In Google's 'Data driven utopia' do they have marching bands playing the Radetzky March continuously?

      Re: Toronto

I don't know, but Toronto should be delighted that this miniGoogleplex is going to syphon the twats out of the rest of their lovely city. Every Apple-victim, every bearded hipster, half of all milennials will be relentlessly sucked in, and then will stay of their own "free will".

Don't know. I still fondly recall the days when Waterloo Station played Lillibulero to keep the commuters moving fast and in step. Twats have presumably stopped it for fear of offending some bunch of whining, worthless, f***ers.

    It's happening everywhere.

Apple want to appropriate part of Federation Square here in Melbourne (Australia) for yet another Apple store. And the state government, of course, is tripping over themselves in the rush to give them a very generous deal. Heaven forbid they go and set up somewhere else, and we - oh the horror! - miss out.

    Crazy times.

Will this apply to any person wearing an El Reg T-shirt and perhaps asking for a few words with a press officer?
