Getting strike through HTML to work in comment.

I've just tried to post a comment with strike through in it. According to the El Reg guidelines at www.theregister.co.uk/2012/02/01/register_comments_guidelines/ , I should be able to do this by

    <span class="strike">This</span>

But it's not working for me. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

      Use s and /s in <>

As all good engineers say: RTFM.

The section on formatting states Currently we allow: \<b\>, \<strong\>, \<em\>, \<i\> and \<s\> (\<strike\> was dropped in HTML5) \<s\>thusly\</s\>

Sorry about the backslashes, it was the only way I could stop the bad code from screwing up the rest of the formatting. Anybody got a clue since &lt; and &gt; don't work?
