Wait till this data gets lost / hacked / downloaded by Rogue-Insider / 3rd-party leaked. Privacy is one thing, extortion is another! Once in the wild, there's no putting the data 'back in the closet' if you will! The following link is fitting, as this is how the data will end up, no? Not so amazing when one is considering that most of the MSM are owned by Big Tech / Big Corp outright, most of the "news items" are written by Big Tech bot technology running on Big Tech clouds and selected for MSM publication by some algorithms also provided by Big Tech!?
As a result of "progress", most of todays would-be "hell-raisers" are now eking out a small existence as bloggers and freelancers on the very fringes of MSM, where all fake-news and Russian-agitprop is floating around also. No lucrative Washington Post jobs or professorships for "Disturbers of the Peace and Officialdom" in these so enlightened times!
If I was a gay muslim person, I'd be very afraid that perhaps some of the local jihaddi boyz or nazis now have the tools and resources to take names and kick ass all thanks to "Social Media" mass-surveillance and subsequent data-scraping for something as trite and 110% useless as the ad-pushers.
Me being all out of optimism and all, I guess it will take several "bodies of importance" before anyone will care to regulate "The Market".

The problem with most so-called "MSM" is that they are dinosaurs from the past struggling to keep up with "Big Tech". Much of it is owned by "Big Corp" but in most cases they are same dinosaur-like organisations and playing catch-up with the upstart tech companies.
Labelling it as "MSM" is lazy and dangerous, especially when each persons idea of who and what is included in the "MSM" term is different, but they don't realise that and make assumptions that there is some sort of concensus. Much of the time, "MSM" is a term used by what looks suspiciously like nut-job conspiracy theorists or, for that matter, anyone who happens to disagree with whatever is current in the news.

Yes, Indeed, but it seems to me that the real problem are those users who just don't seem to understand that a public forum, and everything they post there, is accessible by everyone else to use or abuse as they see fit - it wasn't Grindr that 'gave' away their details - it was the users themselves.
Remember the good ol' days when the internet was used for sharing information and "B" grade porn. Where the only concept of social media was Usenet or the latter IRC. Where the only thing you had to worry about was getting involved in a flame war or being called a usenet kitten

Expect it to happen, and choose wisely what you publish out there. Even if it is private data registered on a non-public page that the site pinky swears to never, ever reveal - don't trust them.

Either you are simply having sex with one person, and then leaving immediately after, again and again or you are more likely engaging with multiple people. This behaviour is inevitably going to increase your risk of contracting HIV compared to a monogamous interaction. My suggestion that a person exhibiting this type of behaviour might well be the use case for which the feature was add is perfectly valid, because if people on Grindr were looking for only a single person to be all and end all, it wouldn't be necessary.

Somehow, that makes it even worse. If a company is going to betray its users, at least doing so for money is something people can understand.
So if I'm getting what's being said here correctly it's less "Grindr shared information" and more "Publicly accessible profiles were scraped." So....yeah, I'm kinda with Grindr here. If you make information public then don't be surprised when third parties get their hands on it.
On the other hand, given the nature of Grindr, if you're HIV positive, on Grindr, and trying to hide your HIV status....yeah, I've no polite words for someone who does that.
