A former Santander bank manager has pleaded guilty to £15,000 worth of computer misuse crimes after her boyfriend talked her into giving him illicitly obtained customer information. This morning at the City of London Magistrates' Court in England, Abiola Ajibade, 24, of Martock Court, Consort Road, Southwark, pleaded guilty to …

Williams was also investigated by police but was "NFA'd" – his case was formally marked No Further Action.

      Why?

      I'll offer you two options:

      1) Because Williams did nothing wrong, and the linked frauds were pure coincidence

      2) Because the rozzers are incompetent

The only thing I can think of is that she admitted her crime and they didn't have enough evidence on him to secure a conviction. He may have got someone else to commit the frauds but kept no records which to be fair is what most criminals specialising in fraud will do. He could claim that although she sent him the information someone else could have accessed it without his knowledge.

Santander employed a 22 year old as a bank manager!?!

I bet her wages were lower than her boyfriends would have been if he had her position.

    Bank mamager?

Bank managers used to be middle-aged experienced individuals. They would have good understanding of the responsibilities involved. So why is a 22-year old a manager, especially when her mitigation seems to hinge on her immaturity?

"So why is a 22-year old a manager?"

Because bank managers used to make decisions themselves, based on their experience and maturity, but now that's handled by an algorithm, so now what the manager actually does is sign off on the cashier's time sheets.

I can say that 22 seems rather old considering current recruitment policies. However there were many well experienced managers. They were swapped out for the go getter sales reps.

I think most of us who are old enough must be aware of this. The old fashioned bank manager (Captain Mainwaring comes to mind) was a person of influence in their community (sometimes of power) who evaluated customers from their base of knowledge and experience. These have now been replaced by a sales team who flog loans and investments based on what the computer tells them to do. Actual customer service is seen as a diversion from the core role of sales. So to branch closures.

A £300 fine and £85 "victim surcharge" in response to a reported £15000-worth of "computer misuse" crimes? I would be interested to hear the judge's reasoning on that one...

It is unfortunate that she lost her job for what could be a case of simply being naïve and trusting but she is now training for a role in HR? Where she will once again have access to people's confidential information? It would be nice to assume she has learned her lesson and will NEVER hand over information to anyone except a permitted recipient again but human history unfortunately suggests lessons will not be learned...
