back to article Federal Police toss nbn™ under a bus over leaks to Senator

The Australian Senate's Committee of Privileges decided yesterday that documents seized from former Senator Stephen Conroy and a staffer last year are covered by parliamentary privilege, and can't be used in any police investigation into who leaked them. The report was triggered by last year's raids of the offices of …

    Does nbn mean anything anymore?

It was originally an acronym for national broadband network. Is this still the case? The TV adverts keep talking about the nbn network, whch is like talking about pin numbers. Drives me bonkers.

It isn't an acronym anymore. You are meant to pronounce it phonetically. Sort of a mumbled grunt.

Are you ready to join the nubbin?!

What I can't stand is the ridiculous and fantastical TV ad campaign. Holographic soccer referees? Huh?

    nbn

A make-work scheme for public service types and a money pit for tax payers.

    OR

    A crock-o-shit.

    You decide.

      Not bloody needed.

Make-work for petty public servants is right, and more money into the coffers of corporations contracting to it. Orgs who needs fibre already have it, and the speed from mobile connections these days is fine for streaming Netflix etc or whatever time waster you have in mind.

Worst of all, the plan is to have one entity with overall control of the internet in Oz.

We have such shit elected representatives in this country, and it is our own damn fault.

    Better for democracy

It would have been healthier if they'd at least launched a further investigation to get to the bottom of this. Clearly, they believe someone misbehaved. Why have they not followed through and identified the appropriate personnel for dismissal?

Letting such shenanigans slide breeds corruption (with time).

The usual reason is that investigators ended up at the door of someone who is politically untouchable. It doesn't breed corruption with time, it is fucking corruption.

Actually I find it quite heartwarming. It's that time-honoured Australian virtue: mateship.
