When I first learned about quark colours at Uni, the (British) prof used the names red, white, and blue. Afterwards, a few of us were going up the elevator with him where he encountered a colleague. Our prof commented on what he had just taught and was immediately asked about names. The answer caused a row over such "chauvanistic" names. The preferred ones then were white, grey, and black.
