back to article Apple site hacked 'by LulzSec' - report

Hackers claim to have broken into Apple's systems before posting a list of names and password hashes online. The FT, in a story careful to make a number of caveats, attributes the hack on what would appears to be Apple's business intelligence unit on infamous and recently disbanded prankster hackers LulzSec. None of this has …

Nothing to get worked up about...

Apple is releasing a rubber bumper for your passwords. Isn't that what they do when they have an issue???

      Bloody revisionists..

Nooo, they blame you for holding it wrong and then release the rubber bumper before quietly announcing that the person/s responsible have left to seek new challenges.

    Seriously?

The media are freaking nuts, these people do this stuff for publicity and they're being given it. The headline should read "Website hacked, news at 11", and the body should simply be a list of companies and dates. Perhaps once a week.

      That's why it works though

Free news and no effort. Loads of papers are losing money as it is, serve up a story which requires no investigation or effort and they're laughing.

They would be blaming China just about now

    Very thin on facts

That FT article (and numerous clones of it around the interwebs) is pretty thin on facts. They are basically reporting about that single tweet which mentions a pastebin entry that claims to contain data pulled from some database from Apple.

And there is not a single fact or source to verify that "idac_hacker" claim.

    Pics or it didn't happen.

      True

But given Apple seldom comment on anything, or just deny when problems occur, you'll probably struggle to ever definitively prove it happened...

      more info from the WSJ

" "AntiSec," a hacking campaign that includes hackers from both the online vigilante group Anonymous and hackers from the now-defunct Lulz Security, posted a document containing a link to a supposed Apple server along with a list of 26 administrative usernames and passwords. AntiSec is Internet shorthand for "anti-security." "

Wrong, not a problem since they can't have hacked in...

... Apple would be runnning Mac OS X, the most secure OS there is. Remember, No Virus! No Malware! No Spyware! No Way Hackers Can Break In!

    Disappointed

I liked the WSJ report where they called Apple 'the Cupertino-based California gadget maker' better. Perfect chance to pee in some fanbois' tofu this morning and the Reg missed it.

I blame Sarah Bee. Totally her fault for abandoning us....

    apple hacked?

seriously, is register also reporting on this non-story? business intelligence survey server is what they 'hacked' and got 26 user names and hash passwords.

they don't hack, they can't. they use pre-made tools for DDoS and SQLi. they just try wherever they can and if they are successful and manage to 'steal' something they tweet about it.

nothing has been stolen here, no customer data, nothing
