If they stick to the small/micro businesses the resellers probably won't care. Those businesses are too much like hard work for the resellers.

Having been one for a number of years, 'twouldn't bother me at all. The bigger outfits are not interested in one-offs with no continued maintenance or support. Thinking on it a bit more, those of us that do sell into one-offs might actually like the idea. It's a low value add but you can do interesting thinks in the system integrator end, which is something I've been known for in the past.

You do know the low end is the thin end, right?

Software encapsulates skill and networking kit is ripe for automation with SDN. Meraki is out there in the mid-range already.

We have more than enough CPU to run things inefficiently and not care about it if it means we can cut a network admin.

I'm not saying it isn't a short-sighted idea, merely that it will appeal to beancounters.

That's a surefire way to have a massive network outage.

SDN does not make network admins obsolete, it only means that admins require more architectural skills than before when flying by the seat of your pants was kind of ok.

There is no such verb as "to trial"

Something is either "on trial" or it is "being tried".
