back to article Get hyped: Cisco makes $320m intentions known to startup Springpath

Cisco is buying Springpath for $320m and will have the startup supply the software for its HyperFlex hyperconverged products. When Cisco realised it needed to get more server skin in the hyperconverged infrastructure appliance (HCIA) game being led by Nutanix and Simplivity than meet-in-the-channel deals, it struck up a …

    Nice

Solid product but still missing some data services. This will probably change soon with Cisco's deep pockets

AppD was about to IPO and had a run rate of close .5bn/year. Not even close.

$300 to $400m is probably the best any of the latest crop of non-public storage companies can hope for.

I've said for a long time storage is a race to the bottom. If you're not a founder, investor, or executive, there is little to no financial upside for the average peon sitting in a cube. Better to not waste years of your career hoping for a payout that will never come, and instead go find something in another up-and-coming area.

I agree with the earlier poster...storage is doomed. Move on.

Nutanix and Pure may be worth more for their customer base and sales forces alone. Nutanix has unique IP

Bullshit. They have an obsolete distributed filesystem that's creaking at the seams. Granted, a slick GUI and good marking. Right now they are trying to build a dozen software solutions that compete in as many markets with well established incumbents and legions of startups.

Yes, note I said "run rate"

They made ~200 million before IPO at a 50+% YoY click. It's safe to assume their fourth quarter brought in 70-80m. If we assume a flatter growth at that size you are looking at well above 500m for the next year = run rate.
