    Inevitable, but a pity. Riak has ended up pigeonholed as a component rather than an application or platform, and probably rightly so. I can't help but think back to the postmortem of RethinkDB (http://www.defstartup.org/2017/01/18/why-rethinkdb-failed.html) . Just never made it clear enough what value it provided as a product.

      Their sales and support people knew their trade quite well. What did them in was loss of focus.

    No critical mass

    They were doomed long ago because they never gained critical mass in terms of a customer base.

    I guess many here are too young to remember all of the failed companies with decent products back in the 90's. Silicon Valley is littered with them.
