    Really?

    I thought the point was that that the cattle are stateless and everything is resilient. Otherwise, what's the point of the cloud? I can provision a non-resilient server myself, really cheaply.

      Depends on how deep your pockets are. With Azure, you can have storage that is resilient to failure at various levels. You just have to decide how much you want to spend.

      Well, the cloud is supposed to make it pseudo stateless, at least - you aren't supposed to be storing to a specific physical location, rather a logical one. If a physical piece of hardware (whether powered off or fat-fingered out) results in the logical storage becoming unavailable (Amazon) or performance being degraded (Microsoft), then it's not really very cloudy - it is just someone else's shared datacentre.

    users effected were enterprises

    with few consumer facing apps. they have no reason to publicize an outage.
