back to article China proposes new world order for cyberspace regulation

China has issued a “International Strategy of Cooperation on Cyberspace” in which it outlines rules it thinks should govern nations' online conduct. The thrust of the document is that the world needs internet governance that respects sovereignty, reduces the likelihood of conflict and ensures no one nation can control …

  1. Truckle The Uncivil

China is still missing the point. It fails completely to consider any non-authoritarian route. Whatever this treaty finally says, nations will have to agree to it. That means _compel_ their people to go along with it or be in breach of international law.

With The Middle Kingdom's current and past distaste for international law it is a long bow to pull in the first place. It is just to 'bind' other nations people. China will ignore it even if it wrote it.

A better translation of "Middle Kingdom" is "Central Kingdom" and that is what China wants--to be the central kingdom of the world.

Go East ..... when the West is Intellectually Bankrupt and Locked into Wars for Crazy Survival

Bravo, China. Mimicking the Imperialist Meme of the Wild Wacky West delivers Leading Players to Command and Control of the Zone.

Surely the West doesn't think/imagine/realise itself AI Grand Master of the Future Great Game?

Methinks that be a Certifiable Madness Confirmed.

    Nice Try

If you want to control the entire internet, set up your own root servers, develop your own internet protocol and DNS, then see how well you do when you try and persuade the rest of the world that they'd be better off using a system under the control of your government.

I'm sure the rest of the world will rush to switch over.

      Hmmm?

Spin an IntelAIgent Yarn with Remote Autonomous Command and Secret Intelligence Servering Control of Future Event Programs which can all be discovered and uncovered to be true and not fiction, is a much simpler route for root access into every admin system/SCADA operation, SVV.

I'm sure Iran and NORKs will sign up immediately, shortly followed by Donald. I'm sure he'd rather spend the 10% defence increase on in-your-face fuck-you hardware rather than that namby pamby cyber shit (unless the cyber shit can shut up the media).

Anon because I don't want Kim popping round with a rag full of VX.

      Sadly, all too many would.

:-) TAO ..... but not as you may have thunk it

Spooky tailored access/hearts and mined brainwashing, eh? ........ Chinese TakeAway Operations

Makes you realise how outclassed home security and secret intelligence services are, doesn't it? Or are you minded to believe they be leading in and/or with anything nowadays in real time and these remote command and controlling virtual spaces of 0days ....... which be a further securing parallel development for special agents in need of the cryptic security which is/was formerly offered by ye olde one time keypad methodology.

The evidence of anything remotely applicable to anything necessary for lead in this and that is certainly missing from the mainstream and media tasked with informing, educating and entertaining .... El Reg excepted, of course.

Knock, knock, tap, tap ..... Is there anyone out there ? ...... MI6 returns to 'tapping up'

Hmmm? Don't tell me MI6 are now energised with APT ACTivIT .... although that would surely be a Great NEUKlearer HyperRadioProActive Game Changer for them and certainly something for the more intelligent of markets and intelligence space stations to celebrate appropriately with that and those with a need to know the current direction of future malleable manipulated flow.

The Great Firewall will remain, then?

It also says “No country should use ICT to interfere in other countries' internal affairs or leverage its advantage to undermine the security of other countries' ICT product and service supply chain.”

So, no telling the heroic people of the Middle Kingdom that the ruling party's story about the Tiananmen Massacre as a western media beat-up, was not true.

    Point, missed

The point that the Chinese are missing is that the Internet is increasingly making 'countries' obsolete, (notwithstanding the current global fad for nationalism).

    Bwahahahaha...

No country should use ICT to interfere in other countries' internal affairs or leverage its advantage to undermine the security of other countries' ICT product and service supply chain

You are expecting USA (and especially a particular part of it - the one led by acting president Bannon) which has just proven that it can rig an election anyway it likes through the heavy use of ICT to just let go of its new weapon of mass (democracy) destruction.

    Dream on. Some other time.

    Cannon complains about peashooters?

There are two strange things about this:

One, why don't they just set up their own separate Internet. That's not actually too hard for them - they have it pretty much taped down already. It's also the only reliable way to secure a people against foreign influence.

Two, it's not *really* Government Agents that cause most of the problems. China has masses of people who hack Japan/US etc because they want to, for personal or patriotic (or commercial) reasons, cultivated/condoned or otherwise. A 'be nice' treaty would be 'violated' within seconds. It's a grievance factory.

    Or is that the point?

    WTF?

    who stirred up amandrommars?

    haven't seen that many posts in one place or in one day in quite a while;

and, what's worse, they're almost understandable...wtf with that?

      Re: who stirred up amandrommars?

Apparently you are not alone in questioning what is going on, earl grey.

Was that English? or Martian? ...... Macavity

It and they were all fact and facts, which is virtually Chinese to fake news organisations, Macavity. And heading headlong into the mainstream via alternative memes and means.

Surely you cannot be expecting the future to be anything like the past and the present. That would be akin to stagnation and petrification of a dynamic body ..... and most unnatural ...... and therefore quite perverse and corrupt. ........ http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-03-02/fed-trying-stop-market-has-gotten-ahead-itself#comment-9112653

as someone who is in China right now.....

no one should listen to anything China says about the internet and the entire thing here is fundamentally broken.

The "great firewall" is all about making the internet a one way thing, its about letting us but stuff off ebay but in no way whatsoever should any one in China know anything about the rest of the world.

I've been here for almost 3 months and trying to do anything online require a VPN and most are blocked so the ones that can make it through are horrible to use (and I've tried several) so whatever China says about the internet, I'd say do the opposite.

Re: as someone who is in China right now.....

      Howdy, AC,

That live news of yours from the Middle Kingdom would suggest that the report here on El Reg about China is written by foreign agents.

Would that surprise anyone surfing here?
