Nice little idea you've got there

Accept our offer or we will claim that the University owns all the IP anyway.

I know a couple of people who moved to other institutions and then "had an idea" a week later because of cam.ac rather "inclusive" IP policies

My understanding of Statutes and Ordinances (The University of Cambridge's rules) says that the University has first dibs at the IP of research. Otherwise, it's up to the member to staff to do what they (almost) want.

      Anon 'cause... ;-)

"of research" is the tricky bit - they can get very broad on how an idea is based on your research.

They also have(had?) a blanket policy saying they own everything, you get 10% or so - not much of an incentive for you to leave the comfy job and create the next ARM/Tesla/HP

If it is just that they take the money then fine by me, if they also have the control then less so.

Not that I am in the least bit likely to have an original, clever, or lucrative idea in the first place mind, but if I did then it would be the doing it, not the earning from it that would be fun.

The university will claim that had you not been a student/researcher, guided by the readers, professors etc., then you would not be intellectually equipped to make the discovery or invention.

It is the same in most areas. Work in the ceramics department of a museum and they are likely to want first dibs on any old pots that you pick up at a boot sale (at the price you paid).

So pretty much the same as Imperial Innovations plc?

I'm glad Woodford has a chunk of it, my pension has a chunk of Woodford.

I can't invest directly in CIC or II for reasons.
