back to article Three-mile-high pyramid found on alien dwarf world, baffles boffins

When it comes to probing dwarfs, NASA's New Horizons Pluto probe has been hogging the limelight. But the Dawn spacecraft orbiting tiny Ceres, which is hidden in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, is back in operation – and has sent back the first full maps of the sort-of planet. Crucially, the latest pictures fail to …

    Fairly obvious really

It's the reset button for the Solar System.

Best make sure you've updated to the latest Solaris first before pushing it though.

And you did backup, didn't you?

    Whoo

    Ooh! Aaahh! Arggghhhh!

With all the oohing and aaahhhring over Pluto, it would be funny if the really ground breaking discovery turned up on Ceres.

      Re: Ooh! Aaahh! Arggghhhh!

That would be adding insult to injury for poor Pluto. Get downgraded to a 2nd class 'planet' and then have its limelight stolen by Ceres.

    Naming features

Can I suggest that we start using this list for naming features in future:

I propose naming the pyramid Mount Neher in honour of the first manufacturer of aluminium foil.

Due to a timeshift, the actual discovery date was 1st April. Or was that when this article was written? Every trick is good to keep the money flowing.

Quick place a microphone on it, it might give off an SSTV signal of aliens looking to earth.

Although there is almost certainly nothing extra-solar to explain . . .

. . . on either Ceres or Pluto it is still true that there could be almost unlimited alien activity around various parts of the solar system that we just haven't looked at (or closely enough) yet.

So long as they're sensible enough not to broadcast using EM (or only using tightly focussed beams) we would never know.

    Probably not though . . .

    Bah!

Time to reclassify a Dwarf Planet as everything that has already been said plus "must not have pimples".

What we have here, rather than a true Dwarf Planet, is obviously a Ceresoid.

    Job done.
