back to article Revenge porn forbidden: Twitter bans hobby of bitter ex-boyfriends

Twitter has formally banned its users from posting intimate photos of people without their permission. It's a move that will hopefully rid the site of "revenge porn," which are typically sexy snaps leaked online by bitter ex-partners, usually spiteful former boyfriends. The 140-character chatterbox site has updated its rules …

    Poor baby...

Now he wants a takedown on his info or pictures. Hmm... maybe he should pay everyone of those sites... oh... say a $1000 a piece?

BTW, I'm surprised that El Reg wasn't on that list of infringing URLs.

Because of course only men engage in such things...

You need a bit of reading comprehension practice. "... usually spiteful former boyfriends" implies that it's not only men that do it but that it is mostly men who do

Almost none of those photos are actually presented as "revenge" porn

Does this mean all that every account posting 'amateur' photos (clearly taken in private, but not peddled specifically with a 'revenge' angle) will have to stop doing it? That should make quite a dent.

It all depends on whether they got permission first and if anyone complains about it

I would think that by tagging them #exgf or #exbf they are revenge porn, I mean, search #gf and I don't find naked women, actually all you find is biscuits and cake (apparently gluten free haha). Now I wonder why #exgf isn't just images of Wonder Bread and baguettes.

regarding the AC implying women also engage in this behavior, twitter searching #exgf and #exbf and a quick glance only shows naked women pics in exgf... Although the article does say "mostly ... boyfriends" not "only boyfriends".

Also, why does it seem to be a primarily hetero behavior. I suggest somebody studying psychology apply for funding to trawl twitter and determine if homosexual people don't go for revenge porn. But be sure to just check twitter, because it will make a better blurb on the news sites and after you can get more funding to check more sources.

AC because I'm supposed to be working still...

    WTF?

"if information was previously posted or displayed elsewhere on the internet...

"...prior to being put on Twitter, it may not be a violation of this policy"

So if it's already been on a revenge porn site elsewhere, that's ok with Twitter???
