back to article Oracle users open can of whup-ass on licensing policies

Businesses view relations with Oracle as “hostile” and are “filled with deep-rooted mistrust”, according to a six month end-user survey on software compliance conducted by the Campaign for Clear Licensing (CCL). The not-for-profit organ probed (PDF) 100 hard-pressed IT and software asset managers, licensing specialists and …

I think I will start a new business specializing in migrating away from oracle. It seems opportunities will be plentiful :)

      Re: new business

The trouble is that once you base a produce around Oracle, it is extremely hard to change.

Well, if you don't experience escalating license clarification that often, Oracle is here to help.

The most fun part is when you have to call support staff. If you think licensing is a mess, you should look at the products.

I will always remember one specific quote from one of the support drones. We pay over 600 000$ a quarter for support. and we're having a production stopping bug that causes huge memory leaks. So we place a call with Oracle. 2 days later and after a conference call that's now well past an hour, the support tech blurts out this gem.

"Why should I help you with your problem?"

      Seriously?

Oracle Sales is run by lobotomised monkeys, staffed by obnoxious ignorant twats and supported by people treated more like mushrooms than people (kept in the dark and fed (paid) shit).

Glad I don't work there anymore!

A spitting image of the founder me says. :-)

If you want a reason why so many unpleasant people work at oracle then look at its founder. Birds of a feather...

    Oracle's business model...

The problem here is (and has been for as long as I can recall) that Oracle has a business model that is entirely centered around "be expensive enough and they will buy". It works because management around the world thinks "if it's expensive it must be good". When the techies come a-knocking (and a-cursing), typical management answer: "it cost us umpteen hundred K a year, so it's good. Just make it work".

We are plagued with an Oracle-based procurement system. It's slow, cumbersome, so unintuitive that the secretaries up in the beancounting dept don't understand how to make it work even with 2 training sessions per year. And that's whenever it has decided to work at all... and when it doesn't, support is extremely reactive: they'll come back to you within a week. Or two. But it's VERRRY expensive, so higher management can add the line to their CV: modernized procurement to the tune of 1.6 gazillions.

Yeah, money well spent I'd say.
