back to article Theresa May won't quit job over UK Border Agency fiasco

Home Secretary Theresa May confirmed today that she would not resign from her Cabinet position, despite the UK Border Agency fiasco that led to an unknown number of people entering the country without proper checks. The minister told MPs sitting on the Home Affairs committee this lunchtime that "biometric tests were abandoned …

    So...

...who gives her more than a week?

Of course, this has nothing to do with the queues (needing police with dogs to corral) forming at the airports. Is TM saying she didn't know about that and demand a solution? Or that she was happy for that to continue? And what is she going to do about it - cancel the Olympics because it will take a week to get your passport checked?

Perhaps somebody somewhere should work out how many minions, what IT is needed for the job and how many years it will take to get it set up. Maybe Mr Brody knows but wasn't allowed to say...

Unfortunately the IT for the job was shit canned a while back (see e-Borders). Not that it was ever going to do the job anyway, of course.

Whole thing is a fiasco. Not that it's made the border any more or any less secure though. Fiasco as in monumental waste of money.

    Keith Vaz???

Is it me or is the pot calling the kettle black? Vaz was caught arranging dodgy passports to get people into this country so it seems rather rich of him to sit there in judgement of others. But then again Labour MPs have been behaving like petulant children ever since they lost the election.

    Has the Prime Minister...

...expressed his confidence, and offered her his full support?

    DOOMED!

      Full confidence

      Yes: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-15615537

"No 10 has said Mrs May has the "full confidence" of the PM"

      Oh dear...

    The real politics

She has the support of the Women's Institute and the Daily Mail. She will survive (apologies to Gloria Gaynor fans). The fact she hasn't a clue what's been going on in her department for a quarter of a year is unbelievable - but she has the prime minister's full support ! Surely Sir Humphrey has a memo stashed away to protect himself...

I wondered how long I would have to keep reading before I saw the natural reaction of a Reg reader, and I was surprised that it must have been at least a dozen messages before I saw the first glimpse of Mrs May's pussy....

    Who's next then

Well she's not been as bad as the last few. No nickname even, unlike the Nuttsacker, or, shudder, Wacky Jacqui?

Who's up next for the most popular job in the government? Shame David Davies ruled himself out of the cabinet, but he had a degree of integrity, and that's no good.

    Count me in, or not.

Is it just me who got really annoyed by Teresa dumping on Brodie by saying "we don't know how many terrorist/paedophiles/socialists invaded our shores as a result ...."

Yes you do. You know the normal detection rate for naughty people and for when Brodie had swopped blanket checking for more targeted. Which was lowest and by how much? Basic arithmetic should give a good answer. But then facts and risk go on holiday when we get into foreigner territory.

This is not going to end well for anybody except the Daily Mail.

can we have our biometrics back then

seeing as how HMG is too short staffed to use them?

    Fire her

If she won't quit, she should be fired, then voted out of her role as MP by her voters.

I spent 5+ hours at Heathrow once with my Canadian wife held up by a border security staffed by a bunch of collage-age average layabouts. All on a visa technicality.

I welcome shorter border checks, since most of it is theatre anyway and believe me, they were more interested in standing around chatting about what was happening Saturday night than with the queues of airplane ejectees making their way through the border.

I often wonder what kind of aweful person do you have to be to work in such a job.

      Not The First

Remember that the chief police guy from the met resigned shortly after the riots, after this wonderful home secretary failed to come out and support the police.

And she's got form for standing up at the Tory conference and making absurd comments about someone not being deported because he had a pet pussy.

However, the thing which I am most concerned about is how on earth someone who is so clearly incompetent to deal with high office could ever get to that position in the first place! Could there be an Edwina Curry/John Major thing going on here?

She's too fucking dumb to be described as evil.

If she had a brain she'd be dangerous, though.
