No panacea
Roaming profiles have their place, but are far from ideal in many cases. Either you end up with very slow logins as the profile is pulled down to the machine, or you redirect the large parts of the profile to network storage. If you do the latter, logon times are much better, but standalone use becomes effectively impossible.
Also, 30% laptop users seems very high to me. We're 5% or below (and not rising), and thats after several years where users have had the choice of desktop or laptop. For most uses, a laptop is a poor compromise between processing power, battery life, weight, screen size, keyboard and mouse arrangements etc. Ergonomically they're pretty poor too, so only those users for whom portability is an absolute requirement seem to go for them. Desktops aren't going anywhere in the near future.
