    I know, it's not funny. 02 charge for "tethering", VoIP won't happen here in a million years, the US regulator has teeth and consumer interests at heart, unlike OfCom.

    VOIP has been available over all UK networks for years, except on the iphone.

    That's not O2's fault.. Apple censored the entire world based on what AT&T told them to do. Only when that arrangement encountered governement scrutiny did things start to change.

    Solution on O2 UK

    You can just jailbreak your iPhone and use 3GUnrestrictor app. Totally legal in itself, though using the VoIP may be against the terms and conditions of your specific mobile data contract. No that they'll ever find out though, as Skype is transmitted over SSL.

    Funny you say that. We had a user go from the US to Europe with a Windows Smartphone about a year ago and he was actively blocked from accessing the wireless data network by Orange and I believe also O2. He called Orange and they walked him through removing some small file/registry entry that was still left there even after uninstalling skype. After that everything worked fine.
